How To Backup WordPress Database Using phpMyAdmin

Do you know how to backup your WordPress database? I am here to help you. There is a very simple way to backup database.
As you, all know that it’s very important to keep the backup of your database so that if something goes wrong then you can upload your old database again.
Moreover, when you try to transfer your website from one host to another then having the backup of your database is the necessity.
Are You Ready To Have Your WordPress Database Backup
As I have mentioned above that most of the time you need to have WordPress backup when you transfer your website from one host to another.
And the most important thing is that you should always keep it for hard-time. You can generate the full backup of your website if you have a single website on your host.
When it comes to multiple websites then it’s obvious that there is more than one database. In that case, you need to select one particular database to backup.
You may have created the backup of your website using full backup option. But when we talk about database then you need to select your database. There are some steps you need to follow for the completion of backup.
Step 1 :- First you need to login into cPanel of your Web Hosting.
Step 2 :- Second thing is to search for Databases. In this section, you will see many options including “phpMyAdmin”. You have to open it and a new tab will appear to you.
Step 3 :- You need to look at the left-hand side of the screen where tables are shown. You can see your username provided by your Web Hosting provider.
Now you need to click on the plus sign of that username and you will see various databases you have for your various domains present at that host. You just need to select the name of the database you want to download.
Step 4 :- After that many tables will appear in front of you. You can see on the upper side there are many options present including “Export, Import, Search”. Now you need to click on the “Export” option.
Step 5 :– This is the final step. In this step you just need to click at “Go” option and your WordPress database download will start and within few minutes, your download will be completed.
Isn’t this easy to backup WordPress database

Every bloggers knows how important it is to be backing up a blog especially one whose blog has been hacked before like myself.
Backing up through phpmyadmin is also one of the best and simple means of doing it and that’s exactly the way i usually back up mine.

You can update WordPress into the latest version. Nothing wrong with that. Don’t worry about your database. But if you still want to backup your database then there are many free plugins like WP Database Backup, WP-DB-Backup, WP-DBManager and many more. If you want to go for premium plugins then you can use BackupBuddy.
But I always prefer to use cPanel because of accuracy.

I agree, I had my blog for over two months before I realised how to back up my computer. I am always wanting to follow the rules because if something goes wrong I turn into a mess. Then I got some advice on how to do it, reading another post. But that was a different process to yours, so I will do my back up with my web host. I like the idea of having more than one copy somewhere. Not sure if I would know what to do if I needed it, but would wait until that happens. Thanks for this informative post.

There are many ways to backup your website and database of your website. You can use plugins for having backup of your database in your computer. But if you are not afraid of using cPanel then its the best method to follow. There are many newbies in the blogosphere who don’t go through these type of technical methods. But I recommend you to start using cPanel.
Yeah, its always good to have more than one copy of backup. Don’t worry it takes only one minute to backup the database.

Nice Tutorial Ravi. Been using phpMyAdmin for so long, it’s the only program I use to import and expert my databases.
One thing I do, is click the “custom” box so I can name the import-export SQL how I want. Makes it easier to remember what it was for later. Something like that ?
The compression settings also come in handy when your database gets to large, as phpMyAdmin has import limits.

It’s the matter of choice. There are many people who use FTP for database import and export. But other use phpMyAdmin. I have met many newbies who are afraid of these techie things. Whenever it comes about cPanel, they get scared.
Using phpMyAdmin is the best way for creating a database so that you can import your old database into that. I am sure it is fun to use such techie things.
